Drivers window in TX4
« on: November 18, 2009, 12:24:20 AM »
The window in my year old TX4 has been shuddering when i try to close it. Its ok on the way down but it takes about 7 touches of the button to make it shut. Its ok when its raining and it only happens when the window is dry. Took it to John Cowies and to be fair Willie, one of the main mechanics tried everything including replacing the motor that drives the window but nothing worked..I met the guy from LTI today and his solution is that I have to use a silicon spray from now on to remedy the problem. Anybody else had this problem.....................

I don't have Tx so can't comment on how common the problem is, but it sounds like the rubber channel that the window runs in is pinching the glass.

I did have a car that had windows with a similar problem, I was recommend Halfords  Rubber and Nylon Lubricant, which worked well. They don't sell it any longer but it looks to have been replaced by Halfords Silicone Lubricant 400ml at £3.99, which your fits in with your mechanics recommendation.

You have to spray the channel and the felt/flock part of the window rubber which presses against the glass. Make sure you leave it plenty of time to dry out, otherwise when you put the window up it gets smeared in silicon lube and looks terrible.

Exactly the same although I've not bothered about it so far. This has happened to me with a few of my cars and was always rectified by changing the motor and regulator, sometimes it was a fairly straight forward job and other times you seemed to need about six hands to hold everything and use the rivet gun at the same time.

I've got Halfords silicon lubricant so might give it a spray and see what happens, although I think I tried that method some years ago and although it worked better initially it seemed to get worse shortly after, three rivets and a trip to SCB problem solved. ;D

Spray the silicone up the vertical rubber channels on either side of the window. Job done. ;D

The cause may be connected to what your cleaning the inside of the window with, i use washing up liquid diluted of course, that prevents my metro window from shuddering in dry weather ;)

hi i worked 12 years for auto windscreens and have replaced loads of these windows. problem is that lti made the frames too small, all that can be done is keep the felts lubed with wd40 or some other oil based lube
